For the education of a number of our regular viewers who had been wondering what the backcountry skiing was like in the Howson Range, I went there for a week and am able to report that the skiing is very good, as are the views. Here, look at some pictures.

High Dynamic Range Gallery posted by etruscan on 2008-04-29 04:20:00 MST

Little post today to highlight some new additions to the gallery. Last weekend I dove headfirst into a little photographic process called " HDRI " or High Dynamic Range Imaging. Luckily for me my Sony Cyber Shot comes with Auto Expose Bracketing so taking the photos is very straightforward.
I ended up taking about 300 exposures while out for a stroll with my daughter monday ( you can see the stroller in alot of shots, lol ) and ended up processing about 50 of them into HDR images using Photomatix. Some of the ones i posted are duplicates because of how amazed i was at the changes you can instill in a photo with just a quick, simple tweak.
Anyhow, enough with the blabbering - Click any of the thumbnails below to visit the gallery !
By the way - You must be a registered gallery member to view the very large, full sized images. And if you have any questions about the technique, programs used, locations or individual images feel free to leave a comment below or email me directly.
Cheers !

Paintball Gallery Update posted by etruscan on 2008-04-05 11:31:31 MST
|
Just a quick post to mention I upped some pictures of my newly made drop forward. Whats a drop forward you ask ? Well it's a paintball thang - Its essentially a hunk of metal that repositions the weighty air tank to improve the feel and balance of the marker, typically to suite close quarters combat scenarios. That isnt exactly my style of play, but i like my marker to have a quick, tight profile - and this drop gets me there.
Click!
And special thanks must go out to Ze'ev Wolfson for machining this gorgeous thing. My marker is now not only more functional, but unique thanks to his time and effort.

Winter Soldier Hearings. posted by etruscan on 2008-03-17 12:14:14 MST

Hi there. On a very serious tip, I wanted to spread a video on a topic that is no laughing matter - The Winter Soldier hearings of the Iraq war.
If you've never heard of the term " Winter Soldier " or know where it comes from, please follow this link to the wikipedia page here : Winter Soldier Investigation
The current-day version hosted 37 years to the day of the original post-Vietnam war event was webcast this past friday for the world to see. There is over 4 hours of footage here, and allot of it is difficult to listen to, so be warned.
Here is the link to the Iraq Winter Soldier panel discussion : Here (requires self-installing flash 9 plugin )
The main video page is here : IVAW.org Video page

PlasmaPong posted by etruscan on 2008-02-13 12:53:53 MST

Well i came across something that i just had to share. Fantastic little game that melds fluid dynamics simulation with a bit of video game history - Pong !
The best way to describe it is thats it's very much Pong, but with the added weirdness of electromagnetic fields shooting out of your paddle which influence where the ball travels. You just have to see it.
Here is the latest version's download link: Plasma Pong v1.3b[ /url]
There is an earlier version as well, little less flash, text based GUI, etc that people might enjoy too. They are essentially the same thing, but for curiosity's sake you can check it out here: Plasma Pong v 1.2
And if those links should go down, you can find a link to the mufti-hosted file if you click on 'full story'. Im purposefully putting this after the jump to encourage people to use the mirrors, saving our bandwidth.

Vancouver Scientology Raid posted by etruscan on 2008-02-12 16:09:09 MST
|
So as promised, here is the first of (hopefully) many new posts.
This particular one is more along the lines of the original Mufti modus operandi - to take and post photos of things the members have gotten up to in their daily lives.
In this case, our intrepid correspondents covered the local version of the global raid on scientology 'churches'. A global condemnation of the cult has sprung up, perpetrated by a group calling themselves " Anonymous " . While they were the originators of this particular campaign, they quickly found that a global call to arms against Scientology's despicable practices resonated with many, many persons outside their typical audience. As a result, over 9000 individuals participated world wide on Sunday February 10th, 2008.
Here are the photos taken from the Vancouver Raid : Click here for the gallery

Just a little post from beyond the grave - A new idea struck me, regarding dear old mufti - You should start to see new posts soon, detailing and linking to content already on the site, so look out!
To explain that a bit better, ill describe the idea behind this and the method as i see it. Trying to come up with things to post, and yet not turn mufti into some boring blog, i realized that we have TONS of content already on this site. Its the galleries, particularly the places and showcases and even personal photos section that im referring to. Because it tends to be 'forgotten' after a while, i thought it would be good to link back to these things with little descriptions of the events, even to the extent of making articles out of the more interesting sets.
My goal is simple here, and manifold. Mainly, its to leverage whats already here, and to make the site an interesting one to visit. Second, my goal is to improve our search engine ranking by creating links to our content, which the SE's really like.
So with this happening, hopefully it will generate a teensy bit more traffic - i would be elated if this got to the point that we could sell a very modest ammount of advertising space, enough to pay for the sites meager hosting and domain renewal fees. We did it last year, so i see no reason why we cant do it again.
As always, anyone who reads this is more than welcome to contact the admins in regards to contributing - whether its ideas, content or whatever.
Thanks for reading, and please check back for new posts relating to our diverse range of content : )

Crabs posted by etruscan on 2007-03-03 22:38:00 MST

When the snow is falling, what's the first thing that you think of? Eating some tasty crabs of course ! So Jenny and I headed up to Kincolith (or if you prefer, Gingolx) at the mouth of the Nass river for a bit of crabbing. Kincolith was only accessible by boat until a couple of years ago when a road was put in. Kincolith is also the home to an annual Crab Festival and not without reason as we were pleased to find. Here are some pictures.
Enjoy the crabs !

After much bitter, tiring and merciless struggle, Etruscan and I have managed to get the gallery running again, and in an improved version. So let us rejoice by looking at some new pictures. Firstly we have the "what I did last summer series" that goes by the name of " Terrace and Area 2006 " . And secondly, we have some pictures from Terrace Santacon . We thank you for enjoying these fine pictures.
